The Space Log of Captain Ace

The Movie Version:
Everyone's life is a movie. Actually, it's composed of several movies.

Right now, Stuart Yee the movie is being filmed. Sometimes Stuart Yee the movie is a wierd kind of foreign thriller/drama like "Run Lola Run", sometimes it's a romantic comedy (yes, a chick flick if you will), sometimes it's a wierd independant movie like "Napoean Dynomite", sometimes it's a feel-good family picture, or seemingly at times like now, some quirky, self-affirming "guy redefines himself" movie like "About a Boy" or "American Beauty".

But everyone has their own movies. Sometimes I'm just a supporting character in say, the Paul Schroeder movie. Apparently, I'm the quirky foreign friend in Brooks Wilson's movie (at least that's the way he treats me though I'm fully American). Sometimes I'm just a cameo appearance. Sometimes I'm just an extra, the guy asking for change, the guy who steals your parking spot, the guy who stops on the roadside to help you change your tire, the guy you pined for until you met the guy you were really supposed to be with, the guy who pined after you (maybe even annoyed you) or maybe just that guy who rented movies from you at the Blockbuster while you poured your heart out about your family problems.

And everytime you meet a girl, that certain girl that makes you hope that her movie and your movie are the one in the same and that it ends with the both you living happily ever after. Up until now, you've only been an extra in her movie. At times, you became the ex-boyfriend that was a bit too attached and never wants to see again. Then you're script was revised. Now you're the cool ex that she's still friends with. Occasionally, you're even casted as the ex whom she gets back together with again. But you don't give up, and that's very romantic. Though you just hope your movie doesn't turn out to be some whiny cable TV series like Ally McBeal.

On rare occasions, you get to be that really cool dude that the main character looks up to. You give the character guidance and help them out in their plot line. Great for them, but what about your movie?

For some reason, my movie has the feel of About a Boy, except I'm not superficial like the Hugh Grant character. I'm going through some major changes and character reflection. It turns out, there's a lot more I want to fix in my life than I knew. In fact, I'm almost depressed. At least depressed is what I would be if I wasn't doing something about it.
